The 2017 growing season was defined by a cooler-than-average spring and summer, paired with above-average rainfall across the Adelaide Hills. These mild, wet conditions delayed vine development and ultimately pushed harvest back later than usual. While the slow start presented some early concerns, the season progressed steadily and was followed by dry, stable weather during the crucial ripening and harvest window.
This combination of a long, cool growing period and a dry finish created ideal conditions for gradual flavour development, excellent acid retention, and even ripening across varieties. Yields were up across the vineyard, thanks to healthy canopies and favourable flowering conditions, and fruit quality proved consistently high across the board.
The whites are elegant and finely detailed, with standouts including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. Reds benefited from the extended hang time, showing great colour, refined tannins and layered complexity—particularly in Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. 2017 is a classic cool-climate vintage that offers both approachability in youth and strong potential for cellaring.
