The 2020 growing season began with mild conditions and lower-than-average rainfall, continuing the dry trend of recent years. Some late spring rain offered welcome relief and helped sustain vine health through early development. A burst of heat in January raised concerns but arrived early enough in the ripening cycle to avoid any major impact on fruit quality.
The remainder of the season saw a return to mild, dry weather, setting up ideal conditions for slow ripening and extended hang time. While yields were well below average—largely due to the dry start and small berry size—the fruit that was harvested showed impressive concentration and purity. The smaller crop also meant more intensity in both flavour and structure, with natural acidity well retained thanks to the cool finish to the season.
Early standouts include Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio among the whites, showing crispness and drive, while the reds—though limited in volume—are looking poised and balanced, with excellent potential for cellar development. Despite the challenges, 2020 has delivered a focused and finely structured vintage.
