The 2023 vintage in Kuitpo unfolded under consistently cool and stable conditions, rounding out a trio of cooler growing seasons in the region. With minimal heat spikes and even ripening, the season offered a measured pace that allowed each variety to reach harvest in a balanced state. While not without its challenges, the conditions suited our cool-climate site, delivering fruit with clarity, freshness, and fine natural acidity.
Ripening was slow and steady, which helped preserve delicate aromatics and build flavour without pushing sugar levels too high. Yields were slightly down in some varieties but consistent overall, and disease pressure remained low, allowing for considered picking decisions. The whites, especially Fiano, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc, are showing bright fruit expression and a strong sense of place.
The reds, while still maturing, are looking elegant and finely structured, with Pinot Noir standing out early. Overall, 2023 may not be the most dramatic of seasons, but it’s shaping up as a quietly confident vintage—subtle, restrained, and true to the character of the vineyard.
