Vintage 2024

The 2024 vintage at K1 was shaped by a dramatic seasonal shift. After a relatively dry winter spanning July to September, the region experienced a notably wet spring, with two significant rainfall events in November and early December. This untimely moisture coincided with flowering and led to widespread poor fruit set, resulting in very low berry numbers and exceptionally small yields across most varieties.

However, what the vines lacked in quantity, they more than made up for in quality. The low crops were met with cool, dry conditions throughout the three months leading into harvest—ideal ripening weather that mirrors the celebrated 2002 season. These conditions allowed for slow, even flavour development, excellent acid retention, and beautifully balanced fruit. It’s a year that promises remarkable longevity, particularly in the reds, and one we expect collectors will treasure.

Early standouts among the whites include Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner, and Riesling, all showing pristine varietal definition and energy. The reds, though still in their infancy, are showing impressive colour, structure, and perfume. Pinot Noir and Gamay, in particular, are already hinting at greatness, with early barrel samples suggesting depth, tension, and age-worthy elegance. While volumes may be limited, the 2024 vintage is shaping up to be truly special.
