Story: The K1 by Geoff Hardy Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is from the front hill of the vineyard called "The Avenue" as it is planted on both sides of the tree lined driveway. This block produces fruit of exceptional quality each year which make wines of pure varietal expression. In the very best years we bottle a small portion from this block, selecting the very best barrels to create a sophisticated Cabernet with poise and structure that will last for decades in the bottle.
Vintage: The 2019 growing season started with mild weather and below average rainfall. Some late spring rain provided a bit of relief from the dry conditions. A heatwave in January was luckily too early in the ripening cycle to cause any damage to the fruit. This was followed by a very mild and dry finish to the vintage, allowing good hang time and flavour development to the smaller than average crop.
Nose: The K1 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon presents a rich and inviting nose with aromas of blueberry, blackcurrant, mint, tobacco, and cedar.
Palate: On the palate, it delivers flavors of blackberry, mulberries, dark chocolate, bay leaf, cedar, clove, and nutmeg. This full-bodied wine is complex and supported by fine chalky tannins.
Pairing: This K1 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with a Chargrilled Tomahawk steak with blistered vine tomatoes, truffle mash potato and a 3 peppercorn jus.
Cellaring: Drink now or to 2039
