Story: The K1 Shiraz reflects the generosity of the K1 vineyard ‘terroir’ on the Shiraz variety. 80% of the fruit is destemmed over the top of the remaining 20% which is left as whole bunches within the ferment adding layers of aromatic and textural complexity to the wine.
Vintage: The 2019 growing season started with mild weather and below average rainfall. Some late spring rain provided a bit of relief from the dry conditions. A heatwave in January was luckily too early in the ripening cycle to cause any damage to the fruit. This was followed by a very mild and dry finish to the vintage, allowing good hang time and flavour development to the smaller than average crop.
Nose: Aromas of dark cherry and blackberry are layered with warming notes of cinnamon and clove, creating an inviting and complex bouquet.
Palate: Flavours of ripe blackberry and satsuma plum are enriched by hints of baking spice, sundried tomato, and a touch of black pepper. This full-bodied Shiraz has a velvety texture and a lingering, savoury finish.
Pairing: Enjoy with a beef rib-eye roast, accompanied by truffle-salted fries and charred cos lettuce drizzled with a herb buttermilk dressing.
Oak maturation: 40% new French oak for 18 months.
Cellaring: Drink now or to 2034
