2021 K1 Cabernet Merlot

Story: In 1986 Adelaide Hills Geoff Hardy planted out his K1 vineyard in the Kuitpo region of the Adelaide Hills with a focus on growing premium fruit that expresses our unique home. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were among the first varieties planted, and have consistently proved how well suited these varieties are to the cool climate of our site.

Vintage: 2021 will be one for the record books in more than one way but as far as vineyards across South Australia are concerned it was near perfect. Higher than average rainfall over winter allowed vines to produce good canopy and the cool – dry summer gave us beautiful even ripening conditions. This slow ripening allows great flavour development and retention of natural acidity.   

Nose: The Cabernet Merlot greets the senses with enticing aromas of blackberries, bay leaf, blackcurrant, rosemary, mulberries, and a hint of sweet tobacco.

Palate: On the palate, it showcases flavours of blackcurrant, mint, mulberries, with a touch of spice, and a subtle presence of rosemary and roasted bell peppers. This medium-bodied wine offers great structure, making for a satisfying tasting experience.
