Story: Originally from south-western France, Tannat produces powerful and full-bodied red wines. Known for their deep colour and firm tannins, these wines often benefit from ageing to reveal their rich, dark fruit and savoury complexity.
Vintage: 2021 will be one for the record books in more than one way but as far as vineyards across South Australia are concerned it was near perfect. Higher than average rainfall over winter allowed vines to produce good canopy and the cool – dry summer gave us beautiful even ripening conditions. This slow ripening allows great flavour development and retention of natural acidity.
Nose: Dark and inviting, the nose opens with rich aromas of blueberry and boysenberry, interwoven with floral notes of violets, hints of dark chocolate, polished leather and subtle vanilla pod. A complex and brooding bouquet.
Palate: Juicy dark fruits lead the palate — blueberry and boysenberry layered with violets and a touch of aniseed. The tannins are remarkably fine and powdery, giving the wine a structural elegance and impressive length.
Food Pairings: Perfectly suited to a chargrilled beef ribeye cooked over charcoal. The wine’s bold fruit and fine tannins stand up to the richness of the meat, while its floral lift brings balance and vibrancy. Click For Recipe
