Mclaren Vale / Adelaide Hills / Limestone Coast

Story: The 2022 GMH Meritage artfully blends 49% Petit Verdot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 24% Merlot sourced nearly equally from the Adelaide Hills and Limestone Coast. Each variety is carefully fermented and matured separately before being combined, resulting in a modern take on a classic Bordeaux-inspired style that beautifully reflects its regional origins.

Vintage: 2022 Higher than average rainfall over winter followed by a warm and dry spring resulting in even budburst and a textbook start for the vintage. A cool but relatively dry summer gave us beautiful even ripening conditions. This slow ripening allows great flavour development and retention of natural acidity

Nose: An enticing medley of ripe dark fruits greets the senses, with blackberries, plum, and red currant taking centre stage. Delicate floral accents meld with subtle spice and earth derived from the Petit Verdot sourced from the Limestone Coast, while nuanced herbal hints from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot of the Adelaide Hills add further depth.

Palate: On the palate, layers of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum unfold gracefully, enhanced by a gentle touch of vanilla and toasted oak. Well-integrated tannins provide a refined structure and persistent finish, perfectly reflecting the harmonious balance between the fruit expressions of the Limestone Coast and the Adelaide Hills.

Pairing: The GMH Meritage pairs beautifully with a classic beef Wellington. The rich black fruits and violets of the wine complement the savory flavors of the beef and mushroom duxelles, while its structured tannins and complexity enhance the buttery, flaky pastry. This harmonious combination elevates both the dish and the wine for a truly memorable dining experience.
