2024 K1 Chardonnay

Story: K1 Chardonnay is styled to accentuate the characters of Kuitpo’s cool growing conditions and terroir. The fruit is gently handled to ensure aromatics are retained, with French oak and partial malolactic fermentation used to enhance the wine’s purity of fruit character.

Vintage: The 2024 Vintage was initiated by a very wet spring after a relatively dry July, August and September. The wet period included two large rainfalls during November and early December leading to spoilt flowering, very low berry numbers and an extremely low crop in most varieties. These low crops were blessed with cool dry conditions throughout the three months up to vintage giving fabulous flavour development very much like the 2002 season which makes me confident of wines that will age brilliantly.

Nose: The nose opens with ripe stone fruit, nectarine and yellow peach, lifted by bright citrus notes of lemon and tangerine. Subtle hints of fresh coconut, vanilla and hazelnut add warmth and complexity.

Palate: The palate shows layers of yellow apple and peach, supported by notes of pie crust, almond meal and vanilla. A gentle touch of nutmeg and well-integrated oak bring texture and depth, leading to a balanced, lingering finish.
